Welcome to Ladybird Children’s Nursery, Gosforth

This is the newest addition in our group of nurseries, although it has been operating as Gosforth Private Day Nursery for the last 30 years. It is registered for 50 children catering for the needs of children aged 3 months to 5 years.

The nursery is just off Gosforth High Street in two converted Victorian Terrace Houses. We are very proud of our large spacious rooms and outdoor environment where children have the opportunity to investigate and explore.

Our team of caring, nurturing staff appropriately use different levels of teaching to meet the children’s age and stage of development. We work in partnership with parents to offer settling in visits prior to your child starting nursery, this means you can go to work knowing your child is confident and happy.

At Ladybird we use a 'key person' approach to support parents and children from the very start. Your child’s key person will follow your child’s individual routine and build their day around your preferences and wishes.

We also have a fully qualified Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) who works here at Ladybird to help and support children and families with additional needs.

We involve parents in their children’s planning and daily routines and hold parents evenings and coffee mornings.

Caterpillar Room (3 months to 15 months)

Our bright and airy baby rooms offer lots of fun, stimulating and age-appropriate activities.  The babies are free to explore the room and all the resources available, which encourages all areas of development, particularly their social skills.

Babies at our Gosforth nursery have fun in the garden and enjoy playing in the sandpit. The babies thrive as they learn through heuristic and sensory play.

Butterflies Room (15 months to 2 years)

In our toddler rooms the children can choose between activities, which are all on low shelving, and develop speech and language through singing, story time and role-play.

The children have access to painting and messy play activities such as cornflour, baked beans and sticking.  There are lots of different activities available in the toddler room and open access to the outdoor area, providing the children with plenty opportunities to develop their physical skills.

Bumble Bees Room (2 to 3 years)

The room is designed to encourage the children to be independent and make their own choices in what they play with.  All toys and resources are set at the children’s level, sand, water and paint are always available for the children along with planned activities provided by the children’s key person. There is also lots of encouragement to tidy up!

The children are encouraged to self-serve their own lunches, with support from staff if required. There is an adjoining changing area, with low-level toilets so the children can be supported with potty training as and when they are ready.

15 hours free childcare for 2 year olds is available in this room, subject to requirments.

Busy Bees Room (3-5 years)

The pre-school room at our Gosforth nursery can accommodate up to 16 children on a ratio of 1:8.  Our highly experienced staff team work with the children to provide stimulating experiences appropriate to the individual ages and stages of development within this age group.

The pre-school room ethos reflects the children’s social and independence skills within the age group and is similar to the setup of a typical foundation stage classroom found at school.

The room also offers free-flow opportunities for the children to access the various areas of activity as and when they wish, for as long as they wish.  Pre-reading and mathematical skills are promoted within all areas of the room which include role play, mark-making and mathematics areas, sand and water play, construction, small world, books and quiet area and IT.

There is a self-service area for drinks with water bottles available for children to access throughout the day to meet their individual requirements.

The children are encouraged to be independent in accessing the equipment, self-registration, self-serving food at meal times and meeting their own toileting and personal hygiene needs.

Busy Bees have a messy phonics session each week with Julia, our Early Years teacher.

15 hours free childcare is available in this room for all 3 and 4 year olds and 30 hours for some children whose parents meet the requirments.
